Mtogas Virus – How Did I Get It and What Does It Do?

Mtogas virus enters your computer just like any other ransomware virus – via the following two methods:

  • As an e-mail attachment, attached to a message that tells you it is an important document.
  • Via being uploaded to a site, where Mtogas virus pretends it is the program you are trying to download.

Whatever the case of Mtogas virus may be, one thing is certain – it is here to make sure that your files are encrypted. To do this, the Mtogas virus uses something known as AES encryption. This encryption, also known as Advanced Encryption Standard aims to replace data from your original file with data from the cipher. Shortly after this has finished, the Mtogas virus may begin to add it’s own .mtogas file extension to the files. The files which are set for encryption if your computer is compromised by this ransomware are usually the following:

  • Pictures.
  • Videos.
  • Archives.
  • Audio files.
  • Databases.
  • Documents of all types.
  • Photoshop files.
  • Presentations.

The Mtogas virus is very careful not to encrypt files in the system folders of Windows, because you will still need to use your computer to pay money to the crooks behind it. Shortly after encrypting your files, the Mtogas virus adds the _readme.txt ransom note file. It has the following contents:
